Jaafari: Terrorism Can not be Fought through selectivity, UN Ways of Dealing with Terrorism in Syria Problematic
NEW YORK,(ST)_ Syria ‘s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Bashar Jaafari stressed that Syria is facing mercenary terrorists coming from 83 countries , trained in camps in Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia under the supervision of the US, France and Britain, pointing a moral problem with the way the UN deals with terrorism issue in Syria.
In a statement after a meeting for the UN Security Council to discuss conditions related to the crisis in Syria , attended by the UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and the UN assistant secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, Kyung-wha Kang, who represents, “OCHA” via webcast from Geneva Jaafari noted that a joint session for persons responsible for political and humanitarian file, for the first time together, to discuss issues related to the situation of the so called the Syrian crisis is a positive development because just in one meeting, UNSC members were able to discuss the political and humanitarian issues , simultaneously.
Jaafari explained that terrorism can not be fought by selectivity “as we fight terrorism while keeping an ease with what the wrong policies carried out by the Turkish government against Syria , noting that Turkey breaches the UN Charter and the principles of the international law through interfering in Syria’s internal affairs and in allowing terrorists to cross the border
Replying a question about the International alliance continued raids against Daesh terrorist organizations inside Syria and whether it had yielded any positive results Jaafari said that “the so-called “alliance” launches between 8 and 13 sorties, daily against Daesh terrorists in Syria and Iraq, while the Syrian jets mount every day about 130 sorties against Daesh and al-Nusra front and other terrorist organizations and therefore, the Syrian warplanes are strongly engaged in the fight against terrorists in all parts of the country, not only in Aleppo .
“We have serious doubts about the motives and goals of the US strikes, as the US president pointed out that these strikes will continue for three years and we do not know how can the most powerful military force in the world fail to hit the 15,000 terrorist deployed along the Syrian-Iraqi desert, according to the US Department of Defense,” Jaafari said ,noting remarks made by US defense department officials that this war could last long , and some say it will last 20 to 30 years .
“ This is a war of attrition against all peoples and governments in the region , mainly the Iraqi and Syrian governments because , they are the main goals of this campaign”, Jaafari emphasized.
Jaafari said: “our suspicion in the Alliance lies in that it fights Daesh organization, while being patient with the Turkish government support to it,” Jaafari said, adding that the alliance opens new fronts against the Syrian forces in order to disperse its efforts on fighting Daesh along the Turkish-Syrian border to other areas and that means reducing the pressure that can be brought against Daesh terrorists , which also means that again the alliance facilitate Daesh activities in Iraq and Syria.
