Jaafari: Supporting Political Solution to Syria crisis, Development of Bilateral Relations

MOSCOW, (ST)_ Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, renewed his country’s support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, noting Iraq’s adherence to develop relations with Syria and support for any Syrian government that enjoys the support of the Syrian people.

Jaafari said in response to a question about the relationship between Baghdad and Damascus, following a lecture he delivered before students of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow that his country would not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, and seeks to develop relations with any government in Syria that enjoys the support of its people.

“Iraq has confirmed support for a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria, “Jaafari emphasized.

Earlier, on Thursday, Jaafari stressed in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that views with Lavrov were converging on the mechanisms of the solution in the region, especially in Syria, Yemen, Libya and that “it is necessary to adopt political solutions to avoid the region the consequences of war.”
