Jaafari: Security Council Resolution 2199 Imposes Serious Obligations on States Supporting Terrorism Hakim: Important and Falls under Chapter VII

NEWYORK,(ST)_  Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari,  stressed that Syria welcomes UNSC  adoption of  resolution 2199 provided to cut off funding “Daesh” and “al-Nusra  Front” terrorist organizations through selling  oil and stolen antiquities and ransom and greatly appreciates the initiative adopted by the delegations of Russia and China in  this context.

In a statement during a joint news conference with Iraq ‘s  Permanent Representative to the UN, yesterday  , Jaafari explained that the resolution  is very important for both Syria and Iraq, which are the two main victims of the foreign powers and intelligence  backed terrorism, noting that terrorists who are deployed in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq do not come by umbrellas but across the common border of the two countries and that  the vast majority of them come into Iraq and  Syria from Turkey and Jordan.

Jaafari pointed out that the training camps set up in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan are not for training  on peaceful negotiations and to find political solution methods , rather camps of death for the Syrians, referring to those who are legalizing  trading Syrian oil to these terrorists and naming them “armed terrorist forces”  while stealing the Iraqi  and Syrian oil and exporting  it after refining it in Turkish refineries inside Turkish territory from where it is imported by European companies through  Turkish mediators.

On the establishment of a regional force to follow-up the implementation of the said resolution,  Jaafari said: “We are ready to cooperate with everyone and with any country that has the sincere agenda in the fight against terrorism, but how can we deal with some of the members of the so-called international coalition who claim fighting  terrorism while the same members are training  terrorists in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan and send them  to Syria and Iraq, “ pointing to the need for holding Israel  accountable for providing  support and medical treatment for terrorists in its hospitals.

For his part , Iraq ‘s Permanent Representative to the UN  Mohammad Ali Hakim described the resolution as significant because it falls under Chapter VII and that for Iraq , it is trying to freeze and eliminate sources of terrorist funding especially Daesh and al-Nusra front  and all persons  who deal with stealing and trading of oil and gas in Syria and Iraq, as well as artifacts  and  cultural property.

The Iraqi delegate stressed the  need that  all countries in the region  should abide by  implementing  the resolution, as a reaction  of the international community response  to terrorist practices.
