NEW YORK, (ST)_Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has underscored that the Syrian Arab army’s achievements and the Syrian government’s wisdom in dealing with the crisis are behind the signs of international shifts towards Syria.
Bashar al-Ja’afari, who was speaking today in an interview with the Beirut-based al-Mayadeen TV channel, said that Syrian government and people will never accept any type of solution from abroad.
“We, Syrians, do not need a mediator to guide us to the road that leads to safety,” the veteran diplomat said.
He asserted that the Syrian state has no problem to go to Geneva 3 as long as it does not go back to zero point, adding that Iran must attend Geneva 3.
Al-Ja’afari indicated that Russia is able to address all parties and it respects the UN charter and Geneva principles. “Moscow has realized that western countries’ real will that contradicts their remarks, especially after the crisis of the Syrian refugees.
“The West wants to increase its military intervention in Syria under the pretext of fighting ISIS terrorists,” He declared, stressing that Russia and Iran are Syrian people’s allies.
On the other hand, al-Ja’afari said that Syria sent about 600 letters to the United Nations, affirming that the Syrian government positively dealt with the UN initiatives.
“There are shifts in the United Nations towards the crisis in Syria. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon said in a statement released yesterday that Syrian people decide the Syrian President issue, ” he added.
the diplomat clarified that France, the US and Britain have changed their stances towards Syria after they failed to use the issue of protecting civilians and the use of chemical weapons as a pretext to military interventions in Syria.
“Some Gulf delegations in the United Nations, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar, had exerted every possible effort to stir up public opinion inside the international organization against Syria. But this has abated as everyone realized that the Saudi and Qatari roles are negative,” He said.
“The Arab countries lost their political weight in the UN because of their conspiracy against each other,” al-Ja’aafri concluded.
Yesterday, it was reported that the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has joined his American counterpart John Kerry in giving up some of the preconditions they put in the face of any Syrian-Syrian dialogue aiming to solve the crisis in Syria. These preconditions included the “departure” of President Bashar al-Assad.
Fabius announced the shift in the French stance in an interview with the Le Figaro newspaper.
Here, were echo the question raised by the producer Sami Klib at the beginning of the “Nations Game” program in al-Mayadeen Television channel: “Why Arabs shed tears every year in the United Nations which have not done justice to them?”
