Over the past few days, there have been a dangerous Israeli escalation against Syria. Four civilians were injured this morning when Israeli occupation aircraft targeted the vicinity of Shatha village in the northwestern countryside of Hama, while four others were killed in a strike on Kanaker village, west of Suwayda. Meanwhile, Israeli aircraft launched strikes on the vicinity of Harasta city in Damascus countryside.
Israeli aircraft also launched strikes on the vicinity of Izra’a city and Muthbin village in Daraa countryside.
These strikes come within a series of repeated attacks that also targeted the vicinity of the Presidential Palace in Damascus two days ago. They constitute a flagrant violation of international law and a clear aggression against Syria’s sovereignty and independence.
The Israeli entity has not been satisfied with launching such attacks against Syria; it has returned to its malicious game of direct intervention and fueling sectarian and separatist tendencies, in an attempt to exploit them to weaken the Syrian state and perpetuate division and chaos that serve its own schemes.
This intervention cannot be separated from Israel’s aggressive policies, which are based on exploiting differences within Arab countries in order to fragment them into fragile entities to serves the expansionist dream of establishing a “Greater Israel,” which the entity derived from the policies of colonial expansionist states that have long exploited divisions and pursued a policy of “divide and conquer” to achieve their plans.
“Oded Yinon Plan”
In this context, the “Oded Yinon Plan,” published in 1982 in the Hebrew magazine Kivunim, comes to the fore. It clearly demonstrates the Israeli plan to dismantle and fragment the Middle East into discordant states, dividing and dismantling these states in a manner that make them unable to confront Israel or confront its aggression and ambitions.
It is not surprising that the ferocity of Israeli attacks and blatant intervention in Syria has increased. Since the first day of the fall of the former regime, Israel has launched a wide-ranging series of strikes against sites across Syrian territory.
Israeli aggression toward Syria was clear in statements made by officials of the occupying entity. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared in more than one statement that he opposes the establishment of a new Syria. He called for disarmament and the non-deployment of Syrian Arab Army forces throughout southern Syria, while blatantly interfering in internal affairs. He also indicated that the occupation forces would continue to be present in the buffer zone and Mount Hermon indefinitely, and that false claims about ensuring the security of the Druze community in Syria were being made, rejecting any threats to them.
The response to these false claims came from the Sheikhdom of the Muslim Unitarian Community, which affirmed in a statement issued on April 29 that its national and religious stance throughout history has never been anything but supportive of the people of the same homeland. It affirmed that Syria, with its people and territory united, was strong against conspiracies. The statement emphasized the rejection of discord and the need to stand against all those who dare to tamper with the unity of the Syrian people, including corrupt and apostate individuals who wreak havoc, destruction, and strife.
Attempts to incite the Kurdish component
Israeli interventions did not stop at the Israeli Prime Minister’s aggressive statements against Syria. His Defense and Foreign Ministers, Yisrael Katz and Gideon Sa’ar, also participated in this coordinated campaign, attempting to incite the Kurdish component to confront the Syrian government. This did not resonate with the various segments of the Syrian population. The vast majority expressed their rejection of such interventions and attacks, and their commitment to standing with the leadership, government, and army in the face of any aggression on Syrian soil, as witnessed in the heroic response to the attempted Israeli incursion into Daraa countryside.
Today, Israel’s malicious policy of fueling sectarian strife and inciting division and discord is again blatantly evident against Syria. We see frantic attempts to incite strife and incite certain groups to create chaos and stand against the state and its legitimate institutions. Everyone must be aware of the dangers and repercussions of this, and stand united against these attempts to thwart this entity lurking in our homeland and our people, and to defeat its aggressive expansionist plans and projects.
