Irish Peace Activists Visit Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)- An Irish delegation of peace activists is visiting Syria to meet Syrian officials and know about what is really going on in the country.

Tourism Minister Bisher Yazigi on Sunday met members of the guest delegation and explained to them that Syria has been exposed to media and economic terrorism during the war it has been facing over the past six years. This terrorism aimed to distort facts and affect the life of the steadfast Syrian people, the minister said.

 He pointed out that under the current war circumstances, the Ministry of Tourism has been keen on focusing on several aspects that reflects the pulse of life in Syria and promotes traditional vocations and internal tourism.

Head of the delegation, Dr. Declan Hayes clarified that the delegation’s visit aims at being briefed on the real situation in Syria, stressing that Syria has paid a high price, but its steadfast people will rebuild a more beautiful Syria.

Declan affirmed the delegation’s support for Syria, noting that the “victories achieved recently prove that Syria is a strong state”.

The delegation comprises academics from several domains including art, sculpture and media.
