Irish parliamentarian: Israel has been violating international law for decades and committing genocide against the Palestinians

Irish Member of Parliament Matt Karthy said: “Israel” has been violating international law for decades, and is exploiting the slogan of “self-defense” put forward by Western countries as a cover to commit genocide against the Palestinians.

In his speech during a session of the Irish Parliament on the situation in the Middle East and the occupied Palestinian territories, Karthy, the official spokesman for the Sinn Fein party for foreign affairs and defense, said: “Israel occupies the Palestinian territories, besieges them, builds and expands illegal settlements, imposes an apartheid regime that restricts the movement of Palestinians and denies Their basic rights, and regularly and systematically attack and kill Palestinian civilians, all of which is contrary to international law.”

He pointed out that the question that we must all answer in political life is how the world responds to the blatant violations of international law by “Israel,” which is bombing civilians, schools, hospitals, and other civilian infrastructure, in addition to imposing the displacement of a million people from one end of a prison to another, in addition to depriving the trapped civilian population of food, energy, medical supplies and water.

Karthy asked: “Why do we never hear the phrase: Palestine has the right to defend itself,” adding: We all know that the people of Palestine cannot defend themselves against one of the biggest military forces that are supported by more powerful Western powers”.

He added : “In Ireland, our call must be clear… an immediate, complete and frank ceasefire as well as decisive international intervention that leads to a lasting and just peace settlement, and finally a peaceful solution that leads to the establishment of a free, sovereign and independent Palestinian state”.
