Iraqi Prime Minister congratulates President Al-Sharaa on Eid Al-Fitr, stresses Baghdad’s support for Syria’s stability

President of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed Al-Sharaa received a phone call from the Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields.

 

The depth of the people and economic ties between Syria and Iraq was emphasized.

 

Both sides also stressed the importance of opening a new page in bilateral relations based on joint cooperation to confront regional challenges and prevent tension in the region.

 

During the call, Al-Sudani congratulated President Al-Sharaa on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, wishing him and the Syrian people continued security, stability, and progress. Iraq also welcomed the formation of the new Syrian government, affirming its steadfast position in supporting Syria’s security and sovereignty.

 

The call also addressed border security and cooperation in combating drug smuggling, with both sides stressing the need to enhance security coordination to prevent any threats that may affect the stability of the two countries.

 

For his part, President Al-Sharaa affirmed his commitment to developing bilateral relations, stressing his respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and his keenness not to interfere in its internal affairs.

 

He also emphasized the need for cooperation to contribute to confronting common challenges and strengthening political relations between the two countries

 

Iraq reaffirmed its supportive stance towards Syria, pointing to the importance of strengthening relations to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples and achieve security and stability in the region.
