Iraqi Prime Minister confirms the Iraqi army’s commitment to defend the country’s land and national sovereignty
Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi affirmed today the commitment of the Iraqi army to its tasks in defending the country’s land, borders, and national sovereignty.
On the occasion of the Iraqi Army’s foundation day, Alsumaria News website quoted Abdul-Mahdi as saying in a statement: “On such a day, the Iraqi army was established to be a reliable bulwark in defending the territories, borders and national sovereignty of Iraq”, stressing that the current conditions in the country call for unity, giving priority to the supreme interests of Iraq, ensuring safety, security and stability, and preserving its national sovereignty.
The Iraqi army has become stronger than before and has sufficient and necessary experience in preserving the security and future of the country, Abdul-Mahdi said, noting that his government issued decisions and orders to limit weapons so that the state is the only recipient.
In his turn, Iraqi Defense Minister Najah Al-Shammari said in a statement on the occasion of the 99th Army’s Day that “this day is an occasion for cooperation and unity among the people”.
Al-Shammari praised the victory of the Iraqi army against the “ISIS” terrorist organization.
