Yesterday, the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani discussed with the Syrian Minister of Interior, Major General Mohammad Al Rahmoun, enhancing security cooperation between Syria and Iraq.
A statement by the Iraqi Prime Minister, reported by SANA , said that ” the discussions dealt with mechanisms of security cooperation between the two brotherly countries in many common files, especially those related to the file of combating terrorism and drugs”.
The Premier pointed to the importance of communication between the security officials of the two countries and cooperation in the field of exchange of intelligence information.
Al Sudani affirmed Iraq’s readiness to exert the utmost efforts to boost cooperation with Syria to establish security on the common border between the two countries and ward off the threat of terrorism in a way that helps enhance the security of the two countries and the stability of the entire region.
Syria and Iraq sign a memorandum in the field of joint security cooperation
The Minister of Interior, Major General Muhammad al-Rahmoun, signed with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Amir al-Shammari in Baghdad a memorandum of joint security cooperation that includes five axes.
Major General Al Rahmoun said in a joint press conference with Shammari, reported by the Iraqi News Agency: “Cooperation was discussed with the Iraqi side in all fields, especially security, as we suffered from terrorism in our countries”. He pointed out that a meeting will be held on July 22nd in the capital, Baghdad, for broader regional cooperation.
Al Rahmoun said:” The two brotherly countries suffer from the phenomenon of cross-border terrorism, international border control, armed terrorist organizations, and other criminal phenomena. We signed an agreement to promote bilateral cooperation in these fields with the aim of eliminating these phenomena, in addition to enhancing cybersecurity and exchanging experiences and training between the two ministries”.
In turn, Al-Shammari explained that intelligence cooperation between Iraq and Syria is good, and there is joint work in the field of exchanging information.
