Iraqi politicians condemn the US ambassador’s interference in Iraq’s internal affairs

Baghdad, (ST) – Iraqi parliamentarians and politicians on Wednesday denounced the attempts of the US ambassador in Baghdad Elena Romansky to interfer in the affairs of the Iraqi ministries and provinces. They stressed that these moves are inconsistent with the sovereignty of Iraq and they deviate from the known diplomatic norms in the world.

Muhammad Karim, representative of the Iraqi Al-Fatah Alliance said: “Washington’s ambassador in Baghdad is making suspicious moves through her visits to the Iraqi provinces, her meetings with officials and political figures, and her interference openly in the internal affairs of Iraq”.

Karim said that the suspicious moves of the ambassador led a number of MPs to collect signatures to hold a parliamentary session in the presence of the foreign minister. “This parliamentary session aims to summon the ambassador and end her mission in Baghdad, because of her moves that contradict diplomatic norms which defined the duties of ambassadors,” He added.

Karim also said that the ambassador, since assuming her position, has made moves as if she were a high commissioner ghe custodian of of the Iraqi affairs.

For his part, the representative of the State of Law coalition, Thaer Al-Jubouri, stressed in a similar statement the need to reconsider the moves of some ambassadors inside Iraq.

Al-Jubouri said that the violations committed by the American ambassador exceed the sovereignty of Iraq. He pointed out that some ambassadors have worked to destroy Iraq during the past years.

In turn, a member of the State of Law Coalition, Haider Al-Lami, warned of the US ambassador’s moves, pointing out that she is working on deep and dangerous files.

Political analyst Mufid Al-Saadi also called for the enactment of a law that defines the moves of ambassadors in Iraq. He stressed that the moves of some ambassadors in the past period aimed at inflaming sectarian feelings and interfering in the internal political and administrative affairs of Iraq.
