Iraqi Health Ministry: The Omicron Mutant at Peak of Spread Countrywide

The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced today, Tuesday, that the Omicron mutant from the Corona virus had reached the peak of the outbreak in the country, noting that record levels of infections had been registered.

The official Iraqi newspaper, Al-Sabah, quoted the Director of Health Enhancement in the Ministry, Dr. Haitham Al-Obaidi, as saying, “Omicron entered the peak stage , and what distinguishes it from previous strains is the high  rate of infections.”

Al-Obaidi explained that the Omicron strain is very worrying because of the high number of infections in a short time, and this will cause pressure on resources, whether medicine, beds, hospitals and medical staff.

On Monday, Iraq recorded a new rise in the number of daily infections with the Corona virus, which reached 4,466 infections.

The world is witnessing record increases in Corona virus infections in light of the spread of the new Omicron strain, because its incubation period is less than a week due to the rapid onset of symptoms and the short period of infection spread.
