Iraqi forces laid siege on the Central town of Karma in Anbar province in preparation for a major offensive to liberate the strategic town from ISIL Takfiri terrorists.
Senior security official said on Friday that the armed forces backed by the local tribesmen were tightening the noose around the ISIL terrorists in Karma, which lies some 53 kilometers (33 miles) East of the provincial capital, Ramadi.
Sources say Iraqi forces have also managed to cut off all supply lines of arms and ammunition for the Takfiri terrorists trapped inside the troubled region.
Large contingents of security forces are now deployed on the outskirts of the town in order to mount a major operation.
Security experts say the liberation of Karma will also pave the way for clearing the city of Fallujah of ISIL terrorists.
“It is an important advancement for Iraqi forces, volunteers and tribesmen,” Mohammad Naji, a commander of volunteer forces said.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Baghdad Operations Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir al-Shammari has said that recapture of Karma district will be important to security of the capital as well.
Also on Friday, Iraqi army forces killed three of the most prominent ISIL Takfiri terrorist commanders in the same volatile province.
Iraqi soldiers, volunteers and tribesmen have succeeded in driving the ISIL terrorists out of some areas in Iraq.
They recently managed to cleanse ISIL terrorists from most areas of the city of Tikrit, situated Northwest of the capital, Baghdad, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists.
ISIL started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily armed militants took control of the country’s Northern city of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s Arab heartland.
The Takfiri extremists have carried out heinous crimes in the Iraq and Syria, including mass executions and the beheading of people.
Iraqi air strikes kill ISIL key commanders in Anbar
Meanwhile, the Iraqi air force bombed positions of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group in Anbar province, and killed 3 senior ISIL commanders.
The Ministry of Defense said on Thursday that the Iraqi air force conducted 3 air strikes on ISIL positions in al-Anbar province.
The statement added that the air strikes resulted in the death of 3 key ISIL commanders, known as Maher Ihsan, Abu Dagana and Abu Ihsan.
A rockets warehouse containing 140 rockets was also destroyed in the air strikes, according to the statement.
Iraqi Forces repel ISIL attack in Salahuddin
The Iraqi security forces repelled an attack by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists on the area of al-Jazirah in Salahuddin province.
The security forces, backed by popular forces have managed to repel a massive offensive by the ISIL terrorists on their positions in al-Jazirah, an informed source said.
Dozens of the ISIL militants were killed and injured during the clashes which erupted between the security forces and the militants, the source added.
