Iraqi Forces Control 90% of Western Mosul

The comprehensive military campaign by Iraqi military forces to liberate the Northern city of Mosul from ISIL militants continued on Thursday, and local reports quoted a top Iraqi commander as saying that the country’s security forces are now in control of 90 percent of territories in Western Mosul.

A top Iraqi commander announced that the country’s security forces are now in control of 90 percent of territories in Western Mosul as operations entered a fifth month to retake Iraq’s second largest city from ISIL militants.

 Major General Najm al-Jubouri, head of the Joint Operations Command’s Mosul operations, said in a statement  that his troops have become in control over 90 percent of the “Western axis”, and continue to advance in Central Mosul, Iraqi News reported.

Western Mosul’s Yarmouk District Recaptured, 42 ISIL Militants Killed in Iraqi Airstrikes

Iraqi forces recaptured a new district in Western Mosul from ISIL militants Thursday, while 42 militants died in airstrikes that targeted their locations.

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Yarallah, chief of the Joint Operations Command operations in Nineveh, said Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Forces took over Yarmouk al-Thania district and raised Iraqi flags above its buildings, Iraqi News reported.

30 ISIL Militants Killed in Western Mosul

Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces killed thirty ISIL members after repulsing an attack launched by the trrorists in Western Mosul, local reports said.

 “The eighth brigade confronted on Thursday an attack by ISIL militants in al-Hadar area, West of Mosul,” the PMF media service said.

The service added that the Iraqi popular troops, locally known as Hashd al-Shaabi, encountered the attack, killing 30 ISIL members and destroying three booby-trapped motorbikes with weapons on them.
