BAGHDAD- Iraqi army forces have entered the city of Tikrit in northern Baghdad, Iraqi official sources said on Tuesday.
According to “al-Iraqeyya” TV, the Iraqi army fully recaptured Tikrit from the al-Qaeda-linked terrorists of the so-called “State in Iraq and Levant” organization (ISIL).
Quoting an Iraqi source as saying, the channel said members of the terrorist organization fled Tikrit after the Iraqi forces had launched a special military operation to take back the city from the ISIL gangs.
For its part, the counter-terrorism body in Iraq announced that in cooperation with the army, it carried out a wide scale operation to clear the city from terrorists.
On Monday, the Iraqi army continued its military operations to fight terrorism in Iraq and managed to eliminate 150 terrorists in the Iraqi provinces of al-Anbar, Salahuddin, Diali and Babel, to destroy their hideouts and to seize their weapons.
