Iraq welcomes new Syria and desires cooperation between the two countries’ governments

The Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi expressed his country’s welcome to the new Syria, and its desire for serious cooperation between the governments of the two brotherly countries.

Al-Awadi said in a statement to the Iraqi newspaper Al-Sabah today: Iraq and its government were the first to sympathize with the new Syrian reality, and Baghdad issued signs and signals of welcome and readiness to cooperate. He added that the most important point is the serious Iraqi decision not to interfere in Syrian affairs and accept what the new Syrian equation produces, and the acceptance of the people of Syria of their new reality and administration.

He added: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani will visit Baghdad to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two neighboring brotherly countries.

Al-Awadi noted that this visit will contribute to achieving the desired goal, and will constitute a starting point for starting new relations based on cooperation and mutual respect, especially since the visit will address all the important files that concern the two countries.

He stressed that Iraq desires serious cooperation between the governments of two brotherly neighboring countries, which have great opportunities in various economic, investment and security fields.
