Iraq: We are conducting consultations in support for launching comprehensive political process in Syria

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that Iraq is conducting continuous consultations with regional and Western countries to urge them to adopt a position that supports the launch of a comprehensive political process in Syria.

The Iraqi News Agency quoted a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry, Tobias Lindner, in Munich. The statement indicated that during the meeting, Lindner confirmed that Germany is closely following developments in Syria, while Fuad Hussein pointed to Iraq’s concerns about the consequences of the changes in Syria, especially the presence of a big number of terrorists near its borders.

Hussein clarified, according to the statement that Iraq is conducting continuous consultations with regional and Western countries to urge them to adopt a position that supports the launch of a comprehensive political process in Syria that ensures the participation of all parties and components.

Hussein stressed that Iraq’s position on the developments in Syria is clear, as it does not oppose the change that has occurred, but at the same time it does not support any party at the expense of another.

He stressed that the Syrian people alone are concerned with determining the form of the ruling system in their country.

In the same context, the minister pointed out that “Iraq receives its citizens, who are affiliated with ISIS, and their families, and privides rehabilitation for them and integrate them into society.
