Iraq’s Decision to Liberate Mosul from “Daesh” Gangs a Turning point in War on Terrorism – Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Arab Republic has welcomed  the Iraqi government’s announcement of the start of a major operation to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIS terrorists and stressed its strong support for the Iraqi government, army and supportive combat groups, including the Hashed Shaabi forces, in their battle against terrorism, according to an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The decision to liberate Mosul from “Daesh” gangs is a turning point in the war on terrorism, the source said, stressing that this decision should receive the full support of all countries of the world.

“Syria affirms that victory over Deash in Iraq is a victory over “Daesh” in Syria, because the battle against Deash and other terrorist groups is a battle against terrorism and the parties which back, arm and fund it,” the source added.

“Syria warns against the danger of the Turkish regime’s aggressive stances and statements against the Iraqi people and against the decision of the Iraqi leadership to liberate Mosul,” the source said, pointing out that these stances can only be considered as circumvention attempts by the Turkish regime on the battle to eliminate terrorism and end the unjustified occupation of Syrian and Iraqi territories.

The source concluded by stressing that all who don’t support the Syrian and Iraqi anti-terrorism efforts under whatever pretext and all who try to hinder the process of uprooting terrorism are supporting terrorists and standing against the implementation of UN resolutions relating to counter-terrorism.
