Baghdad (ST): Iraq, Egypt and Jordan reiterated the need to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria that preserves its security, stability and cohesion.

A  final joint statement by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, after a tripartite summit that brought them together in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, said, “We reviewed efforts to reach political solutions to the crises in the region, especially in Syria, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and approved references. We stressed the need to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on Security Council Resolution 2254 that preserves the security, stability and cohesion of Syria and provides the appropriate conditions for the voluntary return of refugees.

The tripartite summit discussed enhancing economic, security and trade cooperation among the three countries with the aim of establishing a new phase of strategic integration.

In a speech during the summit, Al-Kazemi stressed the need for coordination between Iraq, Jordan and Egypt to face challenges, especially since the summit is being held in light of a dangerous historical turning point that the region and all countries of the world are going through due to the Corona pandemic, difficult economic conditions, security challenges and the fight against terrorism.

For his part, the Egyptian President considered that the summit is an embodiment of the strength of relations among the three countries and their peoples and indicates the extent of keenness to support and develop these relations towards broader horizons that emphasize the unity of purpose and destiny and meet common interests.
