Iran’s delegate to the United Nations: Syria is one of the main pillars of security and peace in the region
Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Irvani renewed his country’s support for Syria, stressing that a political solution in accordance with the principles of international law and a process led by the Syrians is the only way to end the crisis in the country.
In his speech during a session of the UN Security Council yesterday Irvani stressed the need to fully respect the national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, noting that terrorism still poses a serious threat to Syria and the region.

He said: Syria has always played an important role in the region, and it is one of the main pillars of security and peace in this region, and “we support its regional position and the improvement of its diplomatic relations because we believe that a secure, stable and developed Syria serves the Syrian people, the region and the international community”.
Irvani explained that the illegal presence of foreign forces in northern Syria is a violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, and creates ideal conditions for terrorist activities that must be ended, calling on the UN Security Council to force the Israeli occupation entity to immediately stop all aggressive actions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
Irvani also stressed the need to lift the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on the Syrian people, especially those targeting the health sector, pointing to the severe suffering of Syrians as a result of these measures.
On the other hand, Irvani indicated that his country welcomed the unanimous approval of Resolution 2672 on January 9, 2023, which extends the mechanism for entering humanitarian aid across the border for a period of six months, stressing that the legitimate concerns of the Syrian government must be removed, as well as the problems and challenges identified after the new extension to the said mechanism.
Irvani pointed to Tehran’s support for the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which should continue its tasks according to the relevant procedures and without external interference or artificially imposed schedules.
