Iranian UN envoy: Targeting US military base is self-defence

The permanent Iranian representative Majid Takht Rawanji affirmed that targeting the American military base in Iraq was implemented according to principle of self-defence.

The Iranian News Agency quoted from a letter delivered by Rawanji to the UN Secretary General and President of the UN Security Council as saying that the American assassination of Martyr Soleimani is a terrorist act, noting that targeting the American military base in Iraq came within the framework of self-defence in accordance with article 51 of the UN charter.

He added that the Iranian military operations were carried out without causing any injury to civilians, stressing his country’s commitment to the charter of the UN and its principles.

Rawanji warned the US against any new military adventure against his country, stressing the commitment of the Iranian people to defend the sovereignty of their country.

He concluded expressing complete respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
