Iranian Revolutionary Guard foils attempt to hijack a civilian airliner

Tehran (ST): The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had thwarted the hijacking of a civilian plane that was heading from Ahvaz city in Khuzestan province in the south to Mashhad, the center of the Khorasan province in the east of the country. 

IRNA quoted the Revolutionary Guards as saying in a statement on its website that “the plot to hijack a“ Fokker 100 ”plane belonging to the National Airlines of Iran, which took off last night from Ahvaz airport to Mashhad was foiled due to the vigilance of the aviation security unit forces affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards, as the plane made an emergency landing at Isfahan airport, and its hijackers were arrested.

The passengers left the plane for their destination on an alternate flight, while investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
