Iranian President: Syrian people Entitled to Decide Own Fate

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad underlined that the Syrian people are the only ones who have the right to determine their own fate, according to FNA.

“Our efforts are aimed at making the Syrian groups close and make a compromise among them, holding free and fair elections, so that that the nation would decide about its fate all by itself,” Ahmadinejad said an interview with Egypt’s Nile TV.

“The prevailing conditions in Syria bother us, because regardless of who gets killed, they are all Syrian people,” he added

“In Bahrain, too, we pursue the same policy and we have told them to sit and come to terms with each other and hold free and fair elections,” Ahmadinejad said

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
