Iranian, Iraqi planes carrying humanitarian aid to people affected by the earthquake arrive at Damascus Airport

An Iranian plane, carrying humanitarian and relief aid to the people affected by the deadly earthquake that hit the country at dawn on Monday, arrived at Damascus International Airport this evening.

“This is the first batch of humanitarian aid presented by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mehdi Sabhani said, adding that the plane carries 45 tons of humanitarian aid that includes blankets, tents, medicine, food materials and other things that might be needed by the affected people.

Sabhani, who expressed his condolences to the Syrian people over victims of the earthquake, said that after the unloading process, the aid will be delivered to the affected areas.

He pointed out that the second plane carrying aid will arrive in Aleppo tomorrow, while the destination of the third one will be Lattakia.

Later, two Iraqi planes with humanitaria aid on board arrived at Damascus Airport with the aim of providing assistance to the Syrian people affected by the earthquake.

Osama Mahdi Ghanem, Head of the Arab Department at the Iraqi Foreign Minitry, told SANA that each of the planes carries 70 tons of aid that includes food materials, medicine, blankets and other necessary things.
Ghanem expressed his deepest condolences over the massive human losses due to the earthquake and hoped that Syria will manage to overcome these difficult circumstances soon.

He said “there is an Iraqi air bridge for providing assistance to our brothers in Syria, pointing out that Iraq will send a convoy carrying fuel to Syria to help in alleviate the suffering of the affected people”.
