Iranian FM calls on US to immediately release Iranian hostages

Tehran (ST): The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Musawi called on the US to immediately release the Iranian hostages detained by the US and to stop nonsensical statements in this concern.

The media department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry quoted a tweet by Musawi as saying in response to statements made by US assistant secretary of internal security, that despite the recurrent calls made by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif on the US to move responsibly towards the issue of Iranian hostages, the US administration has been completely indifferent towards the Iranian proposal.

Earlier, the US detained a number of Iranian scientists, businessmen and students illegally in an attempt to swap them with a number of Americans convicted with spy charges in favour of foreign intelligence.

The spokesman for the Iranian government Ali Rabie’ had said that the swap does not need mediators or holding negotiations, noting that the interests section office in Tehran, which is represented by Switzerland, can perform the task.
