Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations: The presence of the American occupation forces in Syria is a major source of terrorism

New York, (ST) – The  Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani affirmed that the illegal presence of the American occupation forces in Syria contributed greatly to providing a favorable environment for nourishing terrorist organizations inside Syria and the region.

The Iranian News Agency quoted Saeed Iravani as saying in the Security Council session on the Middle East: After 12 years of the crisis in Syria, terrorism still poses a threat, and the important and permanent threat to Syria and the region still exists and its main activities are concentrated in the areas controlled by terrorists.

Iravani stressed that the fight against terrorism must be carried out with full respect for national sovereignty and Syrian territorial integrity, without using it as an excuse to violate these basic principles of international law.

Regarding the continuous Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations stressed that the United States seeks to increase tension through its clear alignment with the aggressor at the expense of the innocent Palestinian people.

“The Western countries have tried to equate the right of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian resistance to self-defense and to self-determination with terrorism, and unfairly granted the Israeli occupation entity the right to self-defense”, Iravani said.

Iravani added: The United States’ continued support for the Israeli occupation and aggression has made it part of the problem and challenge facing the international community in the current situation in the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, during the 21st meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is discussing the report on the activities of the International Criminal Court, Saeed Iravani called for accelerating the criminal investigation into the Palestinian situation, especially the disastrous conditions in Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression.

The Iranian delegate said that we are currently witnessing a catastrophic crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories, and there is no doubt that the crimes committed in Gaza are examples of international crimes that fall within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

He emphasized that the grave Israeli violations of international humanitarian law, killings, forced displacement of civilian population, destruction of civilian infrastructure, bombing of densely populated centers, hospitals and schools, and the use of hunger as a weapon, are matters of global concern.
