Senior lawmaker Kazem Jalali, in a meeting on Tuesday with Australian ambassador to Tehran, Paul Foley, said Iran will never give up its nuclear achievements, IRNA reported.
Jalali, head of Majlis Research Center referred to nuclear negotiations with the West after new Iranian government under President Hassan Rouhani took office, and said that new situation in Iran has to be understood by the western governments.
Jalali said that Iranian Parliament supports the government in its new approach to the outside world.
He reiterated that making nuclear bomb has no place in Iranˈs defense doctrine, citing a Fatwa (religious edict) issued by Iranˈs Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei banning the production, using and stockpiling nuclear weapon.
He noted that Iran, as a signatory of nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty wants to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
He stressed Iranˈs good faith in the previous rounds of nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 and said these talks are opportunity for the six world nations that should be made optimum use.
The Australian ambassador, for his part, said he was happy that he is serving in Iran when Iranˈs international status is improving.
Paul Foley called for further parliamentary relations between the two countries serving to enhance level of relations between the two nations.
He said his country welcomes nuclear talks between Iran and the West and believes that US President Barack Obama is determined to reach a deal with Iran.
