Iran welcomes Muslim figures’ call for ending war in Yemen

TEHRAN– FM spokesman Bahram Ghasemi voiced Iran’s support for a statement by a number of political figures in Muslim countries calling for a three-month cessation of war in Yemen.

In a statement on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi highlighted Iran’s unchanging stance on cessation of the destructive war in Yemen as soon as possible, adding “Iran will always welcome any plan or proposal that could help put an end to the war through dialogs and political solutions.”

Ghasemi lauded these Muslim political figures for their sense of responsibility, and voiced Iran’s readiness to provide assistance in any form to put the proposal into effect, Mehr News reported.

He also called on the international community, particularly all Muslim states, to step up their efforts toward putting an end to the Yemeni crisis.

The Iranian diplomat then referred to the four-point plan for ending Yemen’s war as proposed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, stressing that “the immediate ceasefire, dispatch of humanitarian aid, initiation of political dialogue between all Yemeni parties, and formation of a national inclusive government” as noted in the Iranian proposal are key components of achieving lasting peace in Yemen.
