Iran warns of the West’s attempts to revive ISIS terrorist organization

The Iranian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Gholam-Hossein Dehghani has reiterated the need to end the crisis in Syria on the basis of respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dehghani said that the crisis in Syria continues for the tenth year, which puts the international community before a major responsibility to act and help the Syrians resolve this crisis.

He warned of the West’s attempts to revive ISIS terrorist organization, thereby reactivating the other terrorist takfiri groups that sought to undermine Syria.

The Iranian diplomat added that imposing unilateral coercive measures against Syria contradicts international laws and would exacerbate the suffering of the Syrian people under the current circumstances. He said that it is the duty of all countries to provide all necessary assistance to the Syrian people to help them decide the future of their country away from any foreign interference.

He pointed out that the safe, voluntary and honorable return of Syrian refugees to their homeland without using them as a tool to achieve political interests is a top priority, affirming the need to support and participate in the process of reconstruction in Syria.

He clarified that Syria is now facing two disasters, the war and the Coronavirus outbreak, stressing that these circumstances confirm the importance of reconstruction and of providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.
