TEHRAN, (ST)_ Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has called on the Western countries to stop supporting armed terrorist groups which violate Syria ‘s security and stability, stressing that meeting demands set by any people must be through a democratic process, sovereignty of nations and the adoption of dialogue.
“Iran’s foreign policy calls for achieving security and stability in all countries and respects the sovereignty of all nations, “he added.
Iran also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Syria.
“We believe that clashes must end because an increase in conflicts and violence endangers people’s lives and inflicts further losses on the Syrians or the nationals of other countries in Syria,” Mehmanparast added.
“All countries are duty-bound to prepare the grounds so that the Syrian people could express their views in fair elections,”
In a press conference held in Tehran today ( Tuesday) quoted by al-Alam TV , Mehmanparast said that the visit of the Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi to Iran falls in the course of developing bilateral relations, describing this visit as important for the two countries , which are linked to areas of economic and trade cooperation.
Replying to a question on negotiations between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he explained that Iran is cooperating with the IAEA and is ready to answer all its inquiries, noting the next session of negotiations between the two sides will convene tomorrow(Wednesday) and will cover technical and legal frames.
He described meetings held so far between Iran and the IAEA as positive and constructive, expressing hope that next meetings will recognize Iran ‘s legitimate rights for peaceful use of nuclear energy, calling the countries that possess nuclear weapons to abide by their international obligations.
However, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.
