Iran to Show Proper Reaction to US Illegal Acts, Says Araqchi

Tehran – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Sunday reiterated Tehran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying that its patience is not limitless and it will show appropriate reaction to the US unlawful measures soon.

Araqchi made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Austrian Parliamentary Friendship Group Wolfgang Gerstel late on Sunday when they also discussed major domestic and international developments as well as bilateral relations.

Araqchi further noted that the JCPOA is an international accord and the US violated UNSC Resolution 2231 by withdrawing from the deal.

“Unfortunately, the US illegal move has not drawn a suitable reaction by the United Nations Security Council and the European states,” he said.

“We have given enough time to make up for repercussions of the US withdrawal from the deal and now the time has come for action. We welcome the EU political stances, but political supports are not solely enough to save the deal,” he said.

JCPOA is not an economic agreement and has a security nature and if it is important to the EU, it should pay for preserving it, Araqchi said.

Gerstel, for his part, hailed Iran’s stance regarding JCPOA, saying that Austria and the EU have rejected the US decision to withdraw from the deal and are worried about decline in its significance.

“This is a reality that the EU needs JCPOA more than the US and that’s for the same reason that Austria along with the EU are determined to remain committed to the deal,” he said.
