TEHRAN, (ST) – Iran will continue supporting the Syrian people and government in their war against terrorism, says Hussein Amir Abdullahian, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, stressing that his country won’t make any deal that negatively affects Iran’s strategic relations with its allies in the region.
During his meeting on Monday with a number of Syrian journalists and reporters in Tehran, Abdullahian reiterated his country’s support for the elements of the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the confrontation of the global war being waged against the country by foreign-backed terrorists and takfiris.
The meeting was attended by Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran, Adnan Mahmoud.
The Iranian diplomat affirmed that the anti-Syria war has failed in destroying the Syrian state, pointing out that decision circles in America and the West see that the reason behind not attaining the goal of the war was embodied in the steadfastness of Syrian state under President Bashar Al-Assad’s leadership, the strong cohesion between the leadership and the army and the role played by the Syrian people and the media in the face of this heinous aggression.
Abdullahian stressed that the Syrian media, though with limited capabilities, has been able to uncover that the war on Syria is a terrorist war and to reveal the ugly face of Jebhet al-Nousra (al-Nousra Fron) and of other al-Qaeda-linked groups.
“Disclosing the reality of events in Syria has facilitated our work in providing evidence to political officials that what is really going on in the country was a terrorist war not a civil war,” Abdullahian said.
He expressed optimism about Syria’s future despite the difficulties it is facing, noting that “the talk on holding Geneva2 conference and political solution is the result of Syria’s strong stance.”
Iran to keep its Strategic relations with allies
Concerning the impacts of the Iranian-US relations on the crisis in Syria, Abdullahian said that the Iranian foreign policy has clear basic principles and that “Iran won’t make a deal with any party on the expense of the country’s strategic relations with its allies in the region.”
He added that Iran’s negotiations with the United States are confined to the Iranian nuclear file.
Regarding the international conference on Syria scheduled to be held in Geneva, Abdullahian said the Americans know well that the main party in this conference is the Syrian state, because “the Syrian people won’t allow other countries to determine their own future.”
He stressed that Iran will keep supporting the holding of the conference, pointing out that the Syrian government showed it readiness to attend the conference while the “opposition” parties haven’t showed any kind of cooperation.
