Iran: The United States should end the illegal presence of its forces on Syrian territories

New York, (ST) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani reaffirmed his country’s position on the necessity of ending the illegal presence of American forces on Syrian territory and fulfilling its international legal obligations, including the relevant Security Council resolutions, which require all member states to support and respect the national sovereignty and independence and territorial integrity of Syria. He referred that such measures are extremely important to enhance international peace and security.

IRNA quoted Iravani as saying during the UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East and Syria: The humanitarian crisis in Syria is still serious, as the Syrian people suffer from profound economic challenges due to the unjust siege imposed on them. He added that the continuing impact of the unilateral illegal sanctions have imposed a heavy burden on the Syrian people.

Iravani stressed that the humanitarian aid should not be used as a tool to exert political pressure on the Syrian government. He stressed the need to deliver aid in a neutral and non-political manner to all Syrian regions.

Iravani strongly condemned the heinous attacks and terrorist acts carried out by the Israeli entity against Syria. He called on the Security Council to denounce these blatant violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Iravani pointed out that the lack of decisive response by the Security Council has encouraged the Israeli entity to continue its attacks on Syrian lands and its crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.
