Iran: The nuclear agreement is annexed to Resolution 2231

On July 30, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Majeed Takht Rawanji, said that the nuclear agreement signed with Iran is attached to UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

“ The United States claims, through media propaganda, that the nuclear agreement has no legal status in the United Nations, but the nuclear agreement is attached to Resolution 2231 which was issued by the United Nations Security Council and the United States has legal responsibilities to implement both, the nuclear agreement and UN Resolution 2231,”Rawanji said.

 

He stressed that Article 2 of Resolution 2231 requires all members to support the implementation of the nuclear agreement, but America shirks its responsibility.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted in 2015 , through Resolution 2231, the nuclear agreement in July 2015.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country’s withdrawal from the agreement and the imposing of sanctions against Tehran.
