Iran on Monday backed the peace plan put forward by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to end violence and terrorism in Syria, according to IRNA.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the three-point peace plan offered by President al-Assad shares common points with Iranian six-point peace initiative on Syria.

He said that Iran believes that the peace plan offered by Syrian president will be useful to end violence and terrorism in Syria.

The remarks made by Syrian president indicates the country’s stability, he said adding that it also shows that Syrian government with reliance on its people is to eradicate instability and insecurity through political reforms and is strongly opposed to any foreign intervention.

All should help resolve the issue through constructive talks and prevent devastating damages incurred on people and also help return refugees to their mother land, he said.

The spokesman said that President al-Assad’s peace plan prepares ground for resumption of national dialogue among Syrian political .

Mehmanparast said that political developments in the region explicitly reveal the goals of western governments and supporters of the Zionist regime.

“Countries in the region should back al-Assad’s peace plan to de-escalate tension in the region and Syria as well.”

He said that evidences indicate that Syrian crisis does not have a military solution and those who play leading role in regional equations should help implement Assad’s peace plan.

“If the US and the western governments advocating rights of the Syrian nation prepare the ground for free and fair elections, the Syrians will be able to determine their own fate democratically without violence and terrorism,” he said.

Any precondition or comments from foreign governments is regarded as interference in Syrian internal affairs and the fact that US merely pursues its own goal by supporting terrorist operations in Syria, the spokesman said.

Elaborating on Iranian peace efforts in Syria, Mehmanparast said that Iran is encouraging all belligerent parties in Syria to end violence and go ahead with democratic process by free and fair election to form Senate and approve new Constitution.
