Iran Supports Democracy In Syria, Iraq, Says Velayati

Advisor to the Supreme Leader for International Affairs Ali-Akbar Velayati said on Wednesday that Iran supports democracy in Syria, and Iraq, IRNA reported.

Talking to IRNA, he noted that President Bashar Al-Assadˈs popularity among Syrian people has increased a lot after the imposed war because of his resistance to the Saudi paid terrorists.

Al-Assad has already defeated the foreign terrorists fighting at the behest of Israel and Washington and certain regional countries, Velayati added.

He underlined that Al-Assad is popular enough to win any possible elections to be held in the future under the supervision of the international observers.

Answering a question regarding the recent Iraq parliamentary elections, he said that holding Iraq elections under the pressure of terroristsˈ threats and bombings proved Nouri Maliki’s courage.

Velayati hailed high voter turnout the in Iraqi election despite the pressures.

He noted that the current Iraqi governing alliance lead by Nouri Maleki has enough support among the Iraqi people and political groups to form the new government for the third time.
