Iran: Saudi Arabia is the main supporter of terrorism in the region

TEHRAN, (ST)- Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh has stressed that the Saudi regime embraces and supports terrorism in the region whereas Iran seeks enhancing dialogue and diplomacy among countries of the region and works to enhance its ties with all neighboring countries.

The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted Khatibzadeh as saying in response to accusations by the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz against Iran during the UN General Assembly meeting, that “Saudi Arabia is the base and birthplace of Takfiri ideologies and the main financial and logistical supporter of terrorism in the region. It has long been seeking to avoid the reality and cover up its crimes through a blame game and through distorting the truth.”

“The successive defeats on the ground and in politics in Yemen have led Saudi Arabia to bring baseless accusations against Iran,” he said, adding that “Riyadh is accusing Iran in order not to shoulder responsibility for its war crimes against Yemeni women and children”.

He pointed out that the Saudi regime’s behavior in keeping pace with the United States ’policy of exerting pressure on Iran, strengthening relations with the Zionist entity and providing billions of dollars to others at the expense of the Saudi people, would not do this regime any good.

He made it clear that Iran, due to its responsibilities in the region, has repeatedly warned against the wrong Saudi policies that impose heavy costs on the region.

In the same context, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht-Ravanchi dismissed the Saudi King’s recent accusations against Tehran as a “blame game” aimed at diverting world attention away from Riyadh’s dark record of supporting terrorism.

He said that Saudi Arabia is a source of instability in the region and the main financial supporter of terrorist groups, stressing that the Saudi Wahhabi ideology has been the main source of inspiration to the most dangerous terrorist organizations such as Daesh and al-Qaeda.
