Iran’s Velayati meets leaders of Syrian Tribes, reiterates Tehran’s rejection of establishing so-called “safe zone” in Syria
TEHRAN, (ST)- Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution for International Affairs, has reiterated his country’s rejection of any foreign interference in Syria and the region, emphasizing that the presence of American occupation forces in Syria contradicts international laws.
During a meeting with a group of heads of Syrian tribes on Saturday in Tehran, Velyati said that Iran is against all schemes for dividing countries of the region, affirming Tehran’s rejection of establishing the so-called “safe zone” in Syria because it doesn’t serve the interests of the Syrian people.
He said that the illegal presence of the US occupation troops in Syria and the US looting of Syrian oil is “a piracy that violates international laws”. He stressed the need to confront such a blatant aggression on the wealth of the peoples of the region.
Velayati hailed the strategic relations between Syria and Iran, urging enhancing cooperation between countries of the region to confront common challenges, stressing the need to liberate the occupied Palestinian territories.
On their part, leaders of the Syrian tribes, who thanked Iran for supporting Syria in the war on terrorism, said that the Saudi-funded American-Zionist conspiracy hatched against Syria aimed at destroying Syria, but the Syrians managed to withstand the crisis thanks to the steadfastness of the Syrian people, army and leadership and Syria’s continuous coordination with Iran and other allies.
The Syrian tribes delegation also met Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council (Parliament) Ali Larijani who reaffirmed Iran’s support for Syria and its desire to effectively take part in Syria’s reconstruction process.
He stressed the importance of liberating Idleb from terrorists, noting the positive role of Astana meetings in finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.
He reiterated that the Syrian constitution must be drafted by the Syrian people without foreign interference.
Larijani said that during the crisis in Syria, President Bashar Al-Assad has proved that he is a wise resistant leader and the Syrian people have proved that they are a great people who fight for the interests of their country and that the Syrian army has proved its high efficiency to fight terrorism backed the United States, Israel, some European countries and unfortunately by some regional and Arab countries.
On the Israeli attacks on Syria, Larijani said “they indicate the Israeli occupation’s anger because of the victories achieved by the Syrian army, supported by its allies and the axis of resistance, over terrorist organizations.
Heads of the Syrian tribes, on their part, affirmed the need for continuous coordination on reconstruction in Syria, particularly in the areas that had been liberated from terrorism completely.
