Iran’s Abdullahian in Syria for consultations on bilateral ties, regional and international developments
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian arrived in Damascus on Wednesday leading a high ranking delegation for talks with senior Syrian officials on bilateral ties as well as on regional and international developments.
He was welcomed at Damascus Airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad and senior foreign ministry officials as well as the Iranian Ambassador to Syria.
“The visit is another opportunity for holding consultations between the two counties on different issues of common interest as well as on the current situation in the region and the world,” Al-Mikdad said.
He stressed Syria’s firm support for Iran’s intelligent and innovative way of dealing with the nuclear file.
Talks will also focus on enhancing bilateral ties, the current developments in the light of the Russian military operation in Ukraine and the Syrian and Iranian stances on these developments, Al-Mikdad added, pointing out that the talks will be fruitful and will serve the interests of the two countries.
On his part, Abdullahian said “we are in the same trench in the face of challenges. Iran supports the Syrian leadership, government and people and it is keen on boosting the distinguished strategic relations between the two countries”.
He added that the talks will give the political, economic and trade ties a push forward, with special focus on the economic filed.
Abdullahian visited Syria late on August, 2021. During the visit, he held talks with Syrian officials on the Syrian-Iranian strategic relations and the joint efforts to confront economic terrorism and alleviate the pressure being practiced by western countries on the peoples of the two countries.
