TEHRAN -Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayeeunderlined that Tehran and Moscow share identical views and stances on campaign against terrorism in the region.
“Iran and Russia believe that dividing terrorism into good and bad will have negative consequences for the region and the world,” Sanayee told reporters in Moscow.
The Iranian ambassador blasted the western countries for creating and supporting the terrorists, and said, “The terrorists and illegal groups have received extensive support in the last three years, and they have been armed and equipped by the West … .”
Stressing Iran’s continued fight against terrorism and extremism, he reiterated that today Iran is a powerful regional power, and added, “Iran plays a very positive role in the Middle East.”
Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad JavadZarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in a meeting in Munich underlined the need for resolving regional crises through political means.
During the meeting in the German city, Zarif and Lavrov stressed that talks can help the affected countries reach a political solution to the ongoing crises.
Earlier this month, Iranian Supreme Leader’s top aide Ali Akbar Velayati underlined close cooperation between Tehran and Moscow on regional issues, and said the Syrian people and government resisted against the terrorists with the help of the two countries.
“Cooperation between Iran and Russia has been constructive and this cooperation helped the Syrian government and people resistunder the legal leadership of Bashar Assad,” Velayati said in an interview with Iran-based Arabic-language al-Alam news channel.
“We have cooperation on Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen too; we try to settle the crises and prevent others’ meddling,” he added.
