Iran, Russia Keen to Boost Defense Cooperation

The ceremonies marking the National Army Day in Russia were held in Moscow on Tuesday in the presence of governmental and military officials of Russia Federation, ambassadors and military attachés from different countries.

“Iran and Russia have increased their cooperation by realizing the risks and threats resulting from the expansion of terrorist networks in the region and the world in recent years,” Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said.

 The Iranian envoy pointed to the undeniable role of the armies and armed forces of different countries in procuring security and stability, and said, “The army and other armed forces in the Islamic Republic of Iran enjoy a high status and the government and nations take honor in those forces.”

Sanaei said that one of the important missions of the army and armed forces in Iran is to combat terrorist groups and extremists, adding, “Tehran believes that confronting terrorism and extremism needs serious cooperation of the regional and world countries.”

Zarif discusses issues of mutual interest with Georgian president

On the other hand, President of Georgia GiorgiMargvelashvili and visiting Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad JavadZarif discussed here on Tuesday issues of mutual interest.

In the meeting, the two sides underlined necessity to expand cooperation.

Zarif also met his Georgian counterpart, minister of economy and sustainable development, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and parliament speaker and also attended joint economy meeting, and said that the most important axes for cooperation are transit, industry, education and cooperation in international organizations and regional issues.

Zarif visit to Georgia is in direction of expansion of regional cooperation.

He is to fly to Kyrgyzstan after wrapping up his visit to Georgia.

Georgia has good relations with European Union and intends to join the union.

Zarif is visiting three countries of Turkmenistan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of his counterparts and on occasion of the 25th independence anniversary of these three countries.

An economic and industrial delegation from both public and private sectors are accompanying the minister in this tour.

Zarif met with Turkmenistan President GurbangulyBerdimuhamedow and a number of senior officials of Turkmenistan on Monday and discussed development of bilateral ties with them.
