Iran: Resolving the crisis in Syria based on respect for its sovereignty

Iran has reiterated the need to resolve the crisis in Syria politically based on respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing at the same time the need for all foreign forces present illegally on Syrian territory to leave.

During a session of the UN Security Council on October 27th, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, asked not to politicize the issue of humanitarian aid  and to abolish unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, in addition to supporting efforts to rebuild what was destroyed by terrorism.

Ravanchi condemned the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, which constitute a flagrant violation of international laws and regional and international peace and security.

Ravanchi stressed Syria’s right to defend itself and called on the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities to enforce the occupation entity to halt its aggression and end its occupation of the Syrian Golan.

With regard to the meetings of the Constitutional Discussion Committee in Geneva, Ravanchi pointed to the necessity of not interfering in the work of the committee.

“Determining any artificial deadline for the end of the committee’s activities or any other conditions of this kind negatively affects the work of the committee, so it must be refrained from,” Ravanchi said.
