Iran renews its support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria

Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Mousavi reiterated his country’s strong support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria on the basis of respect for its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement today, Moussaoui stressed that his country “supports the political process to resolve this crisis and that the solution can’t be through military actions but through dialogue between all parties with taking into consideration the need to respect the national sovereignty of states and the territorial integrity”.

Mosavi expressed hope that the meeting of the committee discussing the constitution at the end of this month will be the beginning of taking basic steps in this process, which will provide a solution to the crisis in Syria.

Mousavi pointed out that Iran, as one of the guarantors of the Astana process, has worked to play a positive role in order to reduce the escalation.
