Iran renews its call for lifting the unfair sanctions imposed on Syria

Tehran (ST): Iran renewed its call for lifting the unjust sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, providing them with humanitarian aid and preparing ways for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

The Senior Adviser to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji said during a phone call he received today from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria Hilda Haraldstadt that the sanctions imposed on Syria and the politicization of humanitarian aid distribution are a factor in exacerbating the difficult situation of the Syrian people. He called for their removal.

For her part, Haraldstat expressed her appreciation for Iran’s efforts in a political solution to the crisis in Syria, especially within the framework of the Astana process, and said that Norway, given its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, attaches great importance to that.

The two sides stressed the need to continue combating terrorism in Syria and the region as a whole.
