Iran renews calls to Zionist entity to destroy its nuclear weapons stockpile

New York (ST) – Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, stressed the necessity of America’s true commitment to its commitments towards nuclear disarmament and the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

The Iranian news agency (IRNA) quoted Takht Ravanchi as saying during the 10th International Conference on the Revision of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York that “The Zionist entity should abandon its nuclear arsenal, completely destroy its nuclear weapons’ stockpile, and join the NPT without further delay or any preconditions”. Pointing out that subjecting all nuclear activities of the Zionist entity under the comprehensive safety measures of the International Atomic Energy Agency is necessary in order to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone.

In response to the American representative’ statements not to raise controversial issues during the conference, Takht Ravanchi said: “It is better for the representative of the United States to answer whether Washington has the necessary political decision to abide by its commitments regarding nuclear disarmament.” Ravanchi wondered if the United States was it ready to put pressure on the Zionist entity which is the main obstacle in achieving a world free of nuclear weapons.

Takht Ravanchi pointed to the necessity of adhering to transparency and comprehensiveness in the negotiations and the preparation of conference documents, explaining that the main reason for the incompatibility is the imbalance in the prepared drafts.

It is noteworthy that the tenth conference to review the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons began on the first of this month and will continue until the 26th of it at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
