Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani stressed that the illegal presence of US forces in Syria constitutes a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and these forces should withdraw immediately.
Iravani was quoted by IRNA as saying at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the “situation in the Middle East”: “the Islamic Republic of Iran once again reiterates its demand for the immediate withdrawal of all US military forces from Syria, which occupied parts of the territory of this country. The continued illegal presence of these forces not only violates the sovereignty of Syria and its territory, but is also the main source of instability and insecurity in this country. It provides space and cover for terrorist groups to strengthen their position and commit more crimes.
“We also strongly condemn the aggressive actions of the Israeli terrorist entity against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, which continue with complete impunity and without any reaction from the Security Council,” the Iranian representative added.
Iravani criticized the United States’ tendency to politicize the issue of humanitarian aid, saying: “Unfortunately, Washington and its allies have decided to ignore the humanitarian situation and continue their political agenda in Syria… They use sanctions as a tool to achieve goals that they could not achieve through military or diplomatic channels… They have also made desperate efforts such as politicizing humanitarian aid and preventing the return of refugees… Such illegal actions can only contribute to prolonging the crisis and suffering of the Syrian people,” he said.
In this context, the Iranian representative called for the immediate ending of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington and its allies on Syria, stressing that the continuation of such inhumane acts violates the basic human rights of the Syrian people.
“Iran is committed to supporting the political process under the leadership and ownership of Syria and facilitated by the United Nations, as well as helping the Syrian people and government defend the unity of their country and territorial integrity,” he said.
In addition, Iravani stressed that the only practical way to restore peace and security to the region is for the Security Council to force the Israeli entity to immediately stop the war and the crime of genocide it is committing in Gaza and impose an immediate and permanent ceasefire and end its destabilizing practices in the region.
