Iran reiterates its continuous, firm and complete support for Syria

Advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati has stressed that everyone should realize that Iran will continue its complete support for Syria in the face of terrorism.

In a statement to Tasnim International News Agency, Velayati said: “America, the Zionists and regional countries should know that Iran will continue its complete support for the Syrian government until the end, and all allies in the axis of resistance support Syria’s territorial integrity and government.”

Velayati explained that those in charge of the Western media and those manipulating the unfortunate international scenes are trying to launch a new trick and falsify the facts about the situation in Syria as in the past, but all of that has been exposed.

Velayati pointed out that “the outgoing Democratic administration in America is pouring oil on the fire, and the new US President Donald Trump must learn from his experience in his first term that no independent country will submit to his threats.”

Velayati commented on Turkey’s role in the recent terrorist attack on northern Syria, saying: “We did not expect Turkey to fall into the trap prepared by America and Israel. We hoped that Turkey would correct the mistakes of the past in its foreign policy, but unfortunately Turkey fell into the American-Zionist trap.”

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the expansion of terrorist groups’ activities in Syria could harm Syria’s neighboring countries such as Iraq, Jordan and Turkey more than Iran.

In an interview today, Araghchi indicated that he is considering traveling to Russia to discuss the situation in Syria, indicating that his country has many qualifications to calm the situation there, create an opportunity to take the initiative and find a permanent solution.

Araghchi added that “if Syria asks Iran to send forces, we will consider this request, noting that Iran does not lead the resistance factions in Arab countries and does not have organizational relations with them, but rather supports their cause and helps them if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, stressed in a telephone conversation today with the Russian Defense Minister and the Chiefs of Staff of the Iraqi and Syrian armies, that the simultaneous attack of the Takfiri terrorists in Syria with the ceasefire in Lebanon is certainly an American-Israeli plot to weaken Syria, its allies and the axis of resistance.

As a result of these discussions, the parties agreed on decisive support for Syria, and it was decided to take the necessary measures to support the Syrian Arab Army, and they called on Syria’s neighboring countries to take the necessary measures to limit support for the Takfiri terrorists.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced that Iran delivered a clear message during Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Damascus and Ankara regarding its decisive support for Syria against terrorism.

In a statement Tuesday on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meeting in Mashhad, Baghaei said: “Araghchi was briefed on the latest developments on the ground and he held important talks in which he stressed the need for all countries in the region, especially Syria’s neighboring countries, to reach the conclusion that terrorism is a contagious disease that does not stop at a certain point.”

Baghaei explained that if countries do not cooperate to confront this problem, they will all certainly be affected in this regard.

In a speech during the opening of the 28th meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which kicked off today in the city of Mashhad, the center of Khorasan Province, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that the movements of terrorist groups in northern Syria are supported by the United States and the Zionist entity and they require awareness and coordination from the countries of the region, and an immediate and effective response from the international community.
