Iran Rebukes Western Governments for Clandestine Support to Terrorists

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Thursday that some western governments and their allies in the region have adopted double standard policies in dealing with the issue of terrorism rendering clandestine support for terrorists, according to IRNA.

Those who have formed coalition against terrorism such as the western governments give them clandestine support, he said.

Speaking in the seminar themed ‘Islamic lifestyle and challenges’ , he said that they have ignited such unrest in the region and it is beyond their own control to quell it, such as Afghanistan where they stirred unrest but the flames spread after 20 years.

Publicizing the genuine Islam and dealing with violence are among most important issues to be taken into consideration, he said.

It sounds impossible the issue of terrorism to be eradicated in region with ease and even after halt of support by western governments, they may become weak but will not be uprooted so easily, Larijani said.

Thanks God, Iran’s security status is different from other countries and the security forces are in full command of the current developments, he said.

Iran’s anti-terrorist role can’t be undermined

On the other hand in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that absence of Iran from 34-nation coalition would not undermine country’s brilliant role in fighting terrorism.

Responding to a question posed by IRNA, Pakistan top diplomat said that Iran is very active in fighting terrorism.

Commenting on the 34 nation coalition in which Iran had not been included, he said: Iran is very active in fighting terrorism so I don’t think one should confine everything to one coalition.

He went on to say that there are other initiatives which Iran is joining at global or regional level. “In many cases, including fighting terrorism, Pakistan and Iran are cooperating very closely,” he said.
