Iran reaffirms that it respects Syria’s sovereignty, rejects the presence of occupation forces on Syrian land

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian has reaffirmed his country’s stance that calls for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and rejects the presence of occupation forces on the Syrian land.

During a press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in Tehran on Wednesday, Abdullahian said “Iran rejects the occupation of parts of the Syrian territory and the presence of military bases there without the approval of the Syrian State”.

He stressed that the Syrian people are the party that is entitled to decide its future within an independent, sovereign and united country.

 On Iran’s relations with Iraq, Abdullahian said that they are strategic and deep-rooted, calling for consolidating these ties in all fields.

He announced that an initial agreement has been reached for the release of Iranian assets that remain blocked in a foreign bank, pointing out that his country has held talks on how and when these assets will be released.

On his part, the Iraqi foreign minister affirmed that Syria’s stability is important for Iraq, indicating that the security of Iran and Iraq are associated with the security of the region.
