Iran Ready for Cooperation with EU, Says Larijani

Iran is ready for cooperation with the European countries, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday, IRNA reported.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) led to the progress of economic relations between Iran and Europe, but US President Donald Trump’s measures made obstacles in the way of two sides’ cooperation, Larijani said.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iran is ready to cooperate with Europe, Larijani added.

The US president’s measures have also caused problem for the Europeans, the Iranian speaker noted while urging the EU to play an independent role.

Europe’s independence as a block which behaves based on logic is at the interest of world security, Larijani said.

US president announced early May that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions, which had been lifted under the accord.

The first round of the sanctions snapped back into place in August, with the second round, targeting the energy and oil sectors that took effect on November 5.

This is while other signatories to the deal (i.e. Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia) have thus far criticized Washington’s unilateral move and repeatedly renewed their commitment to the deal.
